Why is it celebrated on February 14?

February 14, known as the day of love or lovers, dates back to the year 270 A.D., as a result of the decree issued by Claudius II, in which he prohibited marriage. The emperor of Rome assured that when a soldier was united in marriage, he became weak and useless for war, considering them bad soldiers for war, because if they are called to combat, it is difficult for them to separate from their families.

Valentin, was the bishop in this time of oppression, and he saw the decrees of Rome as unworthy. His conviction about the freedom of the people of Rome to marry and love God made him ask lovers to come to him, to be married in secret.

After some time, the emperor learned of Valentin's actions, and asked that he be seized and brought before him. In his meeting with the bishop, Claudius II could see Valentin's conviction, and wanting to persuade him, he told him to renounce his beliefs, to serve the Roman Empire, only in this way would he spare his life, making him one of his allies.

Valentin, did not accept the crazy proposal of the emperor, because he was a man of faith and was not going to renounce Christ, by not accepting the conditions, he was taken to prison, with an execution order. Weeks before he was executed, one of the jailers saw the bishop as a man of letters, and decided to bring his daughter, who had been blind from birth, to him for lessons.

In a survey carried out by the National Chamber of Women, to people between 15 and 55 years old, in which they were questioned to know how they were going to celebrate this day and all argued that this date was of great importance to them, and they dedicated this day to stay with their loved ones, sharing a series of activities with the aim of celebrating the day of love and friendship, in order to capture it on the calendar, and pay homage to Valentine's Day and its history.
